CONNECT San Diego Innovation Assets Report
The San Diego Innovation Assets Report, published by CONNECT, San Diego's technology and life sciences accelerator, is a compilation of the richness of the innovation assets of San Diego's innovation economy. The report showcases the depth and breadth of the region's assets including: new products launched in the last year; listings of the 80+ research institutes; an index of the flow of key research talent that comes to San Diego's top research institutes and universities; listings of incubators and accelerators; VCs and angel investor groups; trade organizations; the growing number of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education programs; and descriptions of the region's technology and nearsourcing clusters.
Highlights include:
• 150+ locally developed innovative new products launched in the past year;
• 80+ local research institutes and organizations;
• 500+ research scientists in San Diego who bring $1 million or more in research grant awards to the region's research universities and institutes each year;
• Listings of:
70+ venture capital investment entities with a local presence (partner);
5 local angel investment organizations;
15+ incubators, accelerators and co-working environments in San Diego;
20+ local trade organizations directly supporting San Diego's innovation economy;
20+ STEM education programs in the San Diego region and links to additional resources;
• Cluster maps of companies comprising San Diego's technology clusters;
• 5,000+ nearsourcing companies in the region.
The San Diego Innovation Assets Report highlights San Diego as a leader in innovation with world class research, leadership, product development and management talent. The Report serves as a resource for entrepreneurs, policymakers, trade organizations, research institutions and investors interested in learning more about the wide array of assets that support and drive San Diego's thriving innovation economy.
CONNECT Innovation Report
The CONNECT Innovation Report is the first to provide a set of indicators of the strength and impact of the innovation economy in San Diego versus other areas of the state or country depending upon the indicator.
The Report is initially focused on San Diego and includes more than 70 full color charts and tables of data and research findings regarding:
- Newly Added The Fermanian Business and Economic Institute at Point Loma Nazarene University Da Vinci Biomimicry Index;
- The Vistage CEO Confidence Index;
- The PricewaterhouseCoopers Moneytree™ data on venture capital investment across the U.S., California and San Diego
- The number of new innovation start-ups in key regions across California;
- Technology start-up new job creation figures across California;
- Technology sector wages and employment in San Diego;
- Public policy brief focused on the innovation economy;
- Venture capital investment across the U.S., California and San Diego;
- Merger and acquisition activity across California and San Diego;

The CONNECT Innovation Report tracks the health of the San Diego innovation economy by comparing data year
on year and quarter to quarter, providing a comparison across tech industry clusters to selected regions and
monitoring availability of various types of capital. The data helps policymakers and trade organizations plan and
advocate effectively for our innovation economy including availability of visas and workforce training for talent in
high growth clusters, building an attractive environment for capital investment, allocation of grant funding,
reform of the patent system, and zoning. The Report also highlights San Diego is world leader in innovation with
world-class research, leadership and management talent.
